Medical/Health Geography (with GIS)
The Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toledo invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) position in medical/health geography. Start date is August, 2015 (with option of January 2016). This faculty member will be expected to contribute to the BA Geography, MA Geography and PhD Spatially Integrated Social Sciences programs, and to actively collaborate with colleagues across disciplines. The research specialty and teaching focus will be medical/health geography with special interests in spatial aspects of environmental issues, preferably with a focus on water, including public health, disease and contaminants. Evidence of ability to secure external research grant funding is expected. Experience and ability to teach courses in geographic information sciences, quantitative methods, and medical/health geography topics is required. A Ph.D. in Geography or related field is required; ABD candidates a with defense date before January 1, 2016, are welcome to apply.
The department currently has nine full-time faculty members and approximately 50 undergraduate majors and graduate students. Voting for new officers will take place at the Business Meeting. (Drink tickets for the GISS Reception will also be handed out at the Business meeting)
1. Vice Chairperson (Faculty only)
The Vice Chairperson will be elected for a two-year term. After the first
year, he or she shall become and assume the duties of the chairperson.
The vice chair-person shall assume all the duties and responsibilities
of the chairperson in the absence of the chairperson.
2. Academic Director (Faculty only)
The Academic Director will be elected for a two-year term and may
serve more than one term. The Academic Director will organize and execute the Annual Honors Competition for Student Papers. These responsibilities include preparing and disseminating a call for papers, chairing the judging committee for submitted written papers and presentations at the AAG Annual Meeting, organizing the delivery of awards (checks) from the AAG to the student winners, and being present at the AAG Annual Meeting Awards Banquet to present the award to the winning students.
3. Student Director (Student only).
The Student Director will be elected for a one-year term and may
serve more than one term. The Student Director will participate in the selection of the the Annual Honors Competition for Student Paper finalists and winners.
The GISS Specialty Group Reception will be held Thursday, 4/23/2015, from 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM in Crystal A, Hyatt, West Tower, Green Level.
Of note at this event will be a the presentation of the 2015 Aangeenbrug Award to Dr. Timothy Nyerges of the University of Washington.
This event will immediately follow the CyberGIS Symposium: Transactions In GIS Plenary (3:20 – 5:00PM) and the Waldo Tobler Distinguished Lecture in GIScience (5:20 – 7:00PM) in the same room .
Hors d’oeuvre and drinks will be provided. Tickets for drinks can be obtained by attending the Transactions In GIS Plenary, the Tobler Lecture by Libby Wentz, or the GISS Business Meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday, 4/22/2015, from 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM in Columbus H, Hyatt, East Tower, Gold Level.
